But what are some of the signs that you need to see our emergency dentist in Cheam? Read on to find out!
Unrelenting dental discomfort
One of the most common reasons people see our emergency dentist in Cheam is linked to discomfort.
If you have a toothache or soreness in your mouth that is distracting you at work, keeping you awake at night or preventing you from eating, then you should book an emergency appointment with our team. These symptoms may indicate an abscess, a cavity or an impacted tooth, all of which require urgent remedying,
Lost filling or crown
Fillings and crowns are somewhat prone to falling out, especially if they are made from amalgam or metal.
And while a lost restorative may not be uncomfortable, it still needs to be restored urgently by our team. Failure to do so can cause the decay to spread to other parts of the tooth or you could even end up with a dental abscess, something we would all like to avoid.
Cracked or chipped tooth
Damage to the enamel of a tooth may not seem like an issue at first, but left unchecked it can be problematic.
Damage to the tooth can allow bacteria access to underneath the enamel, which on its own can be tough to remove and can cause infections or abscesses to form. Left untreated, it can also cause the crack or chip to spread, causing further damage to the tooth. So, as soon as you notice that you have a chip or crack in any of your teeth, please call our team for a same-day appointment.
Bleeding
Oral bleeds are somewhat common, especially if you play sports or if you have just had an extraction.
However, if you have a bleed coming from your mouth that is not slowing down after 20 minutes of continual pressure with gauze, then you need to see our team. We can assess the cause of the bleed and stitch or glue the site together, preventing any further blood loss.
Ulcers
OK, so by itself, an ulcer is not an issue.
However, if you have an ulcer that keeps recurring in your mouth in the same area and is white in colour, it is worth popping in to see our team. Also, if you notice that you have an ulcer that is larger than a 5 pence piece (even if it isn’t white or causing discomfort), then our team will need to see you promptly to conduct an oral cancer screening.
